Our
Story

Write Out Loud was founded by Issac Bond in 2013. It was created to aid the need for a youth poetry collective. Nothing had previously existed in Saskatoon for youth spoken word before Write Out Loud. Since its creation, Write Out Loud has hosted monthly shows at the Francis Morrison Library, including slams, underground indies, and open mics. In the past, Write Out Loud has done workshops in schools, and has recruited poets to perform at paid gigs for other organizations in the city, providing employment opportunities for young artists and paying youth poets to be feature poets at its events. Write Out Loud's objective is to make spoken word accessible to youth as an art form. We believe the first step is getting young people involved. Our collective is for youth between the ages of 13-25. We are an organization created, run by, and for YOUTH.

Write Out Loud is a community-based initiative. Write Out Loud seeks to expand the influence of spoken word for youth in Saskatoon, to make it an even more insightful and receptive city by pilling on monthly poetry shows. Our vision is to create a community and space where poetry is accessible to youth from all walks of life. We will do this so by amplifying BIPOC voices, and ensuring our venues are accessible.
